We have over 7 years of experience, supporting the medical needs of detainees in courts in England and Wales. We also assist with the Overseas Escorting of patients and have vast experience with the unique challenges of this particular type of patient.
Our partnership with our medical advice line, otherwise known as the Secure Environment Advice Line (SEAL), is currently being used to support custody staff who oversee the supervision of detainees in court environments. They provide clinical support and advice, including medication verification, and the authorisation of self-administration of medications. Their UK-based GMC-registered doctors are also required to triage, via the SEAL, the suitability of a detainee to remain in custody should an ailment or injury concern be raised by the detainee to a custody officer. If deemed necessary, the doctors request a medic to attend a court custody within an agreed time frame for medical assessment on site. These medics are provided by Guardhouse with the aim of the service is to provide appropriate medical care in court custodies so providing appropriate welfare for detainees and to prevent unnecessary transportation of detainees to further secondary care. These Medics are trained to deliver on-the-spot, instant assessment and management of a patient
